Support for Guidance Counsellors and Schools around Student Disclosures of Suicide and/or Self Harm

NCGE, in consultation with the Department of Education and NEPS have collated a resource to support Guidance Counsellors and Schools to support students who are self-harming and/or disclosing thoughts about suicide. This resource maps out important processes and procedures a school can follow to support students during all stages. It provides key points for Guidance Counsellors, management and others to reflect on - if they encounter a student in need.

It is envisaged that this document would be used in a school in line with the school’s confidentiality template.

If Guidance Counsellors or school management require any further support with regard to Suicide/Self Harm, please do not hesitate to contact NCGE.
