PLC / CFE Guidance Provision

The Post Leaving Certificate (PLC) programme is a full-time programme for learners who have completed their Leaving Certificate and adults returning to education. PLC courses are mostly provided in vocational schools with some provision in voluntary secondary and community and comprehensive schools.

Guidance in Post Leaving Certificate Colleges of Further Education is based on the needs of the students in that college and provision is allocated in accordance with:

Circular 009/2018 Education and Training Boards

PLC programmes generally lead to Major FETAC awards made by Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) at NFQ-Level5 or NFQ-Level 6.

The Guidance programme focuses on  educational, personal, social and career opportunities.  Guidance counsellors may also be involved in the wider college activities such as open days / recruitment processes, VTOS co-ordination etc.  The guidance service is available to the students attending the college and thus occurs on site and during college and academic term opening hours.  Guidance interventions may  include CAO and Mature student application to Higher Education, CV, Interview and job seeking skills, personal development programmes, and one-to-one guidance counselling where appropriate
