The National Forum on Guidance was launched by Minister for Training and Skills, Mr. Ciarán Cannon TD on 17th October 2011 who stated 'It is timely with the re-structuring of FAS, the work of the NCGE in European fora, and the imminence of Ireland’s Presidency of the EU in 2013 that we move ahead to work together more effectively across the system, to share practice, to promote an agreed vision for quality guidance, and to support the type of networking which will make a practical difference to the lives of the clients we serve.' The National Forum on Guidance provides a communication and co-operation facility for those involved in provision of guidance and development and support of guidance practitioners and services. Organisations providing guidance in both the education and the public employment sector were invited to send representatives. Discussions are informed by National Priorities, activities of the European Lifelong Guidance Policy Network and developments in guidance in line with EU Council Resolution 2008 and Education and Training 2020 (ET 2020) This forum provides NCGE with the opportunity to formally report on the developments of the ELGPN to all relevant bodies and provide those bodies with the opportunity to formally inform NCGE of local/regional developments in guidance which could be brought to ELGPN in return.
