The National Centre for Guidance in Education (NCGE) will cease to operate from 1st September 2022. 
The NCGE and its Management Committee, Léargas, the Department of Education, the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Solas and ETBI have been carrying out significant work since earlier this year to prepare for the reorganisation of guidance support. A Transitions Working Group and additional sub-groups have been meeting regularly to co-ordinate the reorganisation.

2004 Resolution on Strengthening Policies, Systems and Practices in the field of Guidance throughout life in Europe
Adopted during the Irish Presidency in 2004, this resolution sets out jointly held views on guidance and is a significant step forward for the recognition of guidance as a key element in education and training.  'In the context of lifelong learning, guidance refers to a range of activities that enables citizens of any age and at any point in their lives to identify their capacities, competences and interests, to make educational, training and occupational decisions and to manage their individual life paths in learning, work and other settings in which these capacities and competences are leaned and/or used.'  Read Full Report

2002 Council Resolution on lifelong learning
The Council welcomes the Commission communication of November 2001 on "Making a European area of lifelong learning a reality". It also welcomes the fact that this communication established lifelong learning as one of the guiding principles for education and training.  Read Full Report

2002 Copenhagen Declaration
The Bruges/Copenhagen initiative addresses the key issues of quality, transparency and mutual trust for VET qualifications within the European Union.  The strengthening of policies, systems and practices for information, guidance and counselling is an initial priority in the Bruges initiative, not only to support European mobility but also for integrating VET policies into a broader lifelong learning perspective.  Read Full Report
