Guidance Counsellor Training

To become a guidance counsellor in the educational sector in Ireland it is necessary to have a post-graduate qualification in guidance and counselling. A teaching qualification is also necessary (though this requirement is currently under review for those working with adults) and teaching experience is desirable. For a list of Dept. of Education & Skills recognised courses, see the NCGE Fact Sheet 'Guidance in Ireland'.

NCGE convened a Group consisting of the Directors of the training programes in guidance in 1998 to discuss ideas and to support programme development.
