Circular on revised arrangements for implementation of Junior Cycle framework

Post-primary guidance counsellors will be interested to hear that circular 0024/2016, setting out revised arrangements governing the implementation of the Framework for Junior Cycle 2015 in the school years 2015/2016 and 2016/2017, is available on the Department of Education and Skills' website.

Apart from setting out implementation arrangements, the circular also provides details of the resources available to schools to support the implementation of the framework.


Improved general and guidance teacher allocation in post-primary schools

Circulars 0001/2016 - 0003/2016 from the Department of Education and Skills (DES) outline teacher allocation posts for 2016/2017 in:

  •         Community and comprehensive schools
  •         Education and training boards
  •         Voluntary secondary schools

The circulars detail how schools’ management could consider how best to align the new resource allocation with the objectives of the whole school guidance plan .

Circular Letter 0034/2015 Assessment Instruments (including tests and web-based resources) approved for use for guidance and/or learning support in post-primary schools

The Department of Education and Skills has published (May 2015) a Circular Letter 0034/2015 on assessment instruments approved for use for guidance and/or learning support in post-primary schools which has been informed by the work of the Advisory Committee on Psychometric Testing. The Circular highlights good practice in relation to the selection, administration, interpretation and retention of assessment related information and the provision of feedback to students. School Guidance Handbook

NCGE is pleased to announce that the School Guidance Handbook is now available at www.schoolguidancehandbook.ncge.ie. The School Guidance Handbook is an online resource to support the development and delivery of the school guidance programme. It replaces the old Guidance Counsellor's Handbook.
