Currently this provision is based on the post primary allocation, with College management and Guidance staff focusing on the needs of the students for the duration of their studies in that college. The Guidance programme focuses on educational, personal, social and career opportunities. Guidance counsellors may also be involved in the wider college activities such as open days or VTOS co-ordination etc.  The guidance service is available to the students attending the college and occurs on site and during college and academic term opening hours.  Guidance interventions may include CAO and Mature student application to Higher Education, CV, Interview and job seeking skills, coordination of Work experience modules, personal development programmes, and one-to-one guidance counselling where appropriate. PLC colleges and VTOS centres are actively engaged with Higher Education (HE) providers to offer PLC and VTOS students enhanced progression routes into HE courses on completion of their courses

NCGE provides advice, support, materials, CPD and resources for PLC Guidance Counsellors.
