What
is the International/ European Dimension of Guidance?
Through European and international collaboration, the
guidance system in Ireland has learnt about, contributed
to and promoted models of best practice in guidance.
The International/ European Dimension involves exchanging
ideas, promoting best practice, and collaborating on
innovative guidance projects. It includes promoting
mobility through exchanging information on educational
and labour market opportunities in different countries.
It encompasses learning about other systems, learning
from other systems and sharing best practice from the
Irish guidance system.
What
are the benefits of International/European Collaboration?
Through various international networks, NCGE has learnt
about, contributed to and shared best practice in guidance.
NCGE is a member of the euro|guidance
Network of National Resource Centres for Guidance which
aims to support the guidance community through the provision
of quality information and exchange of best practice.
Through active collaboration, euro|guidance
has developed a number of tools and resources to aid
the guidance community in promoting mobility (On the
Move, ESTIA) and exchanging best practice (Guidenet).
euro|guidance
is also the support structure for PLOTEUS - the Portal
of Learning Opportunities Throughout the European Space

Activities
in the International domain have included promoting
closer co-operation and the exchange of information
between policy makers and practitioners - more
information. In 2001 NCGE co-ordinated the response
to the OECD Review of Career Guidance Policies questionnaire
covering the management and delivery of career information,
guidance and counselling services. Representatives of
the OECD team visited Ireland in December of that year
and published their country note on Ireland in March
2002
