The
ISSEE Quality Guidelines and Workbook provide a practical
tool developed for the adult guidance sector but adaptable
to all guidance settings. The ISSEE Workbook provides
the user with a general background to the quality movement
and an introduction to the different approaches of assessing
and planning for quality. The ISSEE Guidelines themselves
provide both a framework for developing quality for
adult guidance related activities and a threshold or
baseline provision related to that framework for the
delivery of adult guidance related activities. ISSEE
provides guidelines on the direct delivery of adult
guidance services, however additional information on
other aspects beyond direct service delivery is also
provided e.g. strategic management, marketing, staff
development, equal opportunities, premises and equipment
and communication and administration.
Both
documents are designed as developmental tools, with
an initial self-assessment of quality service provision,
thereby forming an action plan to achieve the provision
of a quality service.
Both
resource tools were developed as part of a Leonardo
da Vinci funded project Developing Quality Guidelines
for Adult Guidance' (1999-2001). The ISSEE Guidelines
were piloted in three adult guidance organisations -
two pilot projects from the Adult Educational Guidance
Initiative, and the third was an access office providing
guidance in a third level institution. Evaluations of
the Guidelines were very positive. All three organisations
recommended the ISSEE Quality Guidelines as a 'tool
for self-audit and planning for a quality adult guidance
service'. The ISSEE Quality Guidelines form a section
of the Adult Educational Guidance Initiative Handbook.
