What is the AEGI?
The AEGI is a Department of Education and Skills funded initiative which provides quality educational guidance services for adults. There are 40 AEGI services based nationally.
What does the AEGI offer?
The AEGI offers a guidance service to adults which includes impartial adult education information, one-to-one guidance and group guidance, which will help people to make informed educational, career and life choices.
Who is it for?
The AEGI is aimed at those adults who are considering or participating in Adult Literacy, Vocational Training Opportunity Schemes (VTOS) and Community Education, including Back to Education Initiative (BREI). Former residents of designated institutions are also eligible to receive guidance from the AEGI.
Impartial information on local, regional and national adult education is available to the general public, but only those within the categories listed above are eligible for one-to-one guidance meetings.
Celebrating ten years of the AEGI, 25th May, 2010
The Minister of State for Lifelong Learning, Seán Haughey, on behalf of the Department of Education and Skills and NCGE launched the new AEGI Web Based Handbook for AEGS staff and the Overarching Research Report on the Adult Educational Guidance Initiative, 2000-06.
Reflecting on the initial pilot project phases of the AEGI, the report highlights the examples of good practice, the development of models of guidance through collaboration and consultation with and for target groups, and the professionalism of all staff involved in the AEGI from 2000-2006.
